Spring Cleaning Tips

Ah, spring is in the air! Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping and it’s finally warm enough to go outside without a jacket. As the season of rebirth and growth, it’s also the perfect time to do a deep clean of your apartment. But don’t despair! We have a variety of tips and tricks to optimize your time cleaning, so you can spend more time enjoying your spotless apartment.

Stock up beforehand- There are few worse feelings when cleaning your apartment than having to stop midway to pick up more cleaning supplies, so stock up beforehand! You don’t want to be elbow deep in cleaning the tub to find out you’ve run out of bleach or Scrubbing Bubbles. Plus, cleaning supplies don’t expire, so you’ll have it for next time. It may even inspire you to clean more frequently.

Let Your Cleaning Solution Sit- Speaking of cleaning the tub, don’t wipe away your cleaning solution too early! It needs time to activate and break down the mold and other nasty stuff that you’re trying to get rid of. Wait at least 10 minutes before rinsing or wiping away to make the entire process easier.

Strategize- The hardest part of cleaning is starting, which is why it’s best to go in with a game plan. Decide which room will take the longest, what areas need to sit with a cleaning solution, and what’s the best way to go through all the rooms. Speaking of which…

Clean Room by Room- If you keep bouncing from room to room, you’ll never finish. We suggest starting in one corner and working your way in. Or starting on one level of surfaces, and working your way to the floor. Whatever your preferred method, at least try to focus on one room at a time.

Declutter- Cleaning is going to be ten times more difficult if you don’t pick up beforehand. How can you go about sweeping a floor with ten pairs of sneakers on it? You have to declutter first, then you can worry about the actual cleaning portion of it.

Recruit Backup- No matter how good your strategy is, or how powerful your cleaning supplies is, help always makes the job easier. So use it! From significant others to roommates, if you all use the space, you should all help clean it. Whether you delegate by room or by task, it’ll get done significantly faster the more assistance you have.
