A Day on the Slopes at Mad River Mountain
There’s no feeling quite like standing on top of a mountain, the wind gently tugging at your jacket, before flinging yourself down the hill with two sticks strapped to your feet (or one, if you prefer snowboarding). It truly is an incredible experience. And there’s nowhere better to do that than at Mad River Mountain!
Mad River Mountain is Ohio’s largest winter resort, and by far the best. Located between Bellefontaine and Marysville, Mad River is just a quick drive from Columbus, Dayton and Lima. As one of the oldest ski resorts in Ohio, this season will mark their 58th year of operation. Mad River boasts the most expansive skiable terrain in all of Ohio, which is taken care of by Ohio’s largest snowmaking system. Featuring more than 120 fan guns able to pump over 7000 gallons of water per minute, at Mad River, every day is a snow day!
Mad River also has extensive trails and support systems. Standing at 1,460 feet and featuring a 300 foot vertical drop, it’s not for the faint of heart. The mountain hosts 20 trails, and 12 different lifts to get you up there. If tricks are more your thing, don’t worry, Mad River has you covered. There are four terrain parks of varying styles and difficulties, so you’re sure to find one for all abilities.
If you don’t have your ski legs yet, don’t worry! Mad River has a full ski and snowboard learning center which offers group and private lessons to get you up and skiing in no time. No equipment? No problem! Their Slopeside equipment rental has everything you need to get started. Plus, all trails are patrolled by the National Ski Patrol, to make sure that everyone is safe and happy.
If skiing or snowboarding isn’t your thing but you still want to play in the snow, Mad River has you covered! Mad River’s Avalanche Tubing Park is the biggest in all of Ohio, featuring ten 1000 foot lanes, great for the whole family. Grab a tube and hop on!
Finally, there’s no better feeling after a long day of skiing than sitting down and enjoying a nice cup of hot chocolate or a beer.
